Caudwell Children

Seven years ago a new charity which would change the world of special children’s lives forever was born – Caudwell Children.
The charity, founded by entrepreneur John Caudwell, initially gave preference to a “golden circle” of a 50 mile radius around Stoke-on-Trent. However, in 2004 the charity went nationwide resulting in more special children from around the country being helped. Today Caudwell Children has raised more than £8 million and helped over 1,000 children across the UK by making direct donations of treatments, therapies, specialised medical equipment and dying wish holidays.

What makes Caudwell Children unique is that all of the money raised goes direct to the children, as all of the administration and management costs are paid for by John Caudwell who today remains the Chairman of the charity he founded. For the last few years, the charity’s largest annual fund-raiser has been held each May at John Caudwell’s home, at Broughton Hall in Staffordshire, where the rich and famous have gathered to raise over £1 million for Caudwell Children, enabling the charity to help more children than ever before.

However, with the charity growing at a rapid pace, Caudwell Children is moving into a new era as it works to become one of Britain’s leading national children’s charities. To make this happen several events are being planned nationwide to raise the profile of the charity and to reach and change the
lives of all of the special children in the UK.

Aims of the Caudwell Children
• To make donations to specific child cases of sickness, specialised medical requirements and dying wish holidays.
• To buy or build a property to aid children/children’s charities

John Caudwell:

John Caudwell’s life is an extraordinary tale of rags to riches, where he began his career sweeping floors. A successful businessman of 15 years, John founded the Caudwell Group, Europe’s biggest independent mobile company which he recently sold to concentrate on the charity and other
projects.

Like all good fairy tales, John’s success has not come easy. John’s fortune was not made through a lucky lottery win, nor was he heir to an estate. It was sheer hard work, determination and amazing foresight that rocketed John Caudwell from obscurity to a place in the top 30 richest Britain’s.

John and his brother Brian began selling mobile phones when they were largely unheard of, the size of a house brick and a craze that many thought would never catch on! John may have a hard head when it comes to business, but no-one could accuse him of having a hard heart. John has been throwing a star studded charity ball for Caudwell Children - the biggest in the UK for several years.

Today John helps many charities where he knows he can make a difference, but his main aim continues to be to change the lives of all the special children in the UK.
